San Mateo, CA – The Nueva School, a nationally recognized independent preK-8 school, and College of San Mateo (CSM), the award winning 10,000-student college campus on a stunning 153- acre panoramic site in the San Mateo hills, are excited to announce an innovative partnership supporting the expansion of The Nueva School’s new high school program.

The new high school, announced earlier this fall, will open August 2013 in exceptionally well-equipped facilities on the CSM campus. The partnership arrangement provides for dedicated academic facilities for the high school in a building immediately adjacent to CSM’s signature College Center building at the heart of the campus. Operating as a “school within a school,” the high school will benefit from the rich academic environment and resources of the CSM campus while still enjoying the cohesiveness of a more intimate high school community. The CSM location is also uniquely situated halfway between and just minutes from both The Nueva School’s preK-8 campus in Hillsborough and the future site of the new high school at Bay Meadows in San Mateo.

“We are thrilled with this opportunity to partner with the College of San Mateo,” explains Diane Rosenberg, Executive Director of The Nueva School. “CSM’s commitment to educational innovation and the communities of San Mateo County is exceptionally well aligned with Nueva’s and this setting is highly complementary to the college-like atmosphere we hope to create for the new high school. We look forward to developing this partnership with CSM as we continue to grow the high school program.”

“We are pleased to work with The Nueva School,” said Michael Claire, President of College of San Mateo. “We believe that this partnership will be beneficial to both the College and to The Nueva School. We are pleased to host the inaugural high school class and we look forward to working with their school officials to ensure a successful academic year.”

The new high school program will continue to emphasize the hallmarks for which Nueva has become known: integrated, interdisciplinary studies and applied project-based curriculum, design engineering, and social-emotional learning. It will also offer a wide array of mentorship and internship opportunities with local companies, nonprofits, research institutions, and schools. Classroom curricula will allow for differentiated learning, advanced topics, and independent research. Nueva is currently accepting applications for grades preK-9 and anticipates a freshmen class of 75-100 students starting at the CSM site next fall.

The school is hosting the last Information Session of the 2013-14 admissions season on January 8, 2013 at 6:00 pm. This event is for prospective high-school students and their parents. RSVP is required and events have been filling up in advance.
