San Mateo – Keenan Smith ran 36 yards for the winning touchdown with 4:01 remaining as College of San Mateo upset defending state champion City College of San Francisco, 24-21, Saturday at College Heights Stadium to take over undisputed first place in the Bay 6 League at 3-0.

Defending California Community College Athletic Association state champion City College of San Francisco visits long time rival College of San Mateo Saturday in a 1 p.m. battle of 2-0 Bay 6 League teams.

College of San Mateo finished regular season Coast Conference South women’s water polo play swamping previously league unbeaten Cabrillo College, 16-6, to take over first place. The Bulldogs finished 3-1, while Cabrillo and West Valley are both 2-1 with one match remaining, on Friday.

College of San Mateo took a quick 38-0 lead in the first 20 minutes and never looked back in rolling to a 55-13 Bay 6 League win at Contra Costa College Saturday. That sets up a first place showdown of 2-0 teams on Saturday (Oct. 29) with City College of San Francisco at College Heights Stadium.

Vanessa Kibblewhite (from Mercy, Burlingame) had six goals and Olivia Cosca (Aragon) added three goals to lead CSM in Wednesday’s women’s water polo win at De Anza. Shelby McMillan (Mercy B) had ten saves.

Keenan Smith and Rahsaan Fontenette combined for more than 200 yards rushing and Kaya Maka intercepted two passes as College of San Mateo opened Bay 6 League football play with a 52-14 win over visiting De Anza College Saturday afternoon.

Malia Koloamatangi had seven total blocks and eight kills as the College of San Mateo women’s volleyball team maintained its undefeated home record with a 3-1 win over West Valley College Wednesday night.

College of San Mateo will host the Family Science & Astronomy Festival + Makerspace on October 8 from 2-11 pm. As part of National Astronomy Day, the festival welcomes the community to learn more about astronomy, science and the wonders of the universe.
