Although Alyssa Jepsen pitched six innings of shutout softball and College of San Mateo outhit Ohlone, 8-4, the Renegades got the only extra base hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh for a 1-0 title deciding victory Tuesday.

College of San Mateo and Ohlone College will play for the outright Coast Conference North softball championship (and the overall best record for both divisions) in the season finale on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Fremont.

Damian Ross won the 100 meters twice on Wednesday to highlight host College of San Mateo’s performances in the last home competition of the season. The Bulldogs hosted four other colleges in an abbreviated meet Wednesday in conjunction with the Northern California Multi Event Championships.

The final five events get underway at 10 a.m. Wednesday at College of San Mateo with the 110 meter high hurdles. Alyssa Jepsen allowed just one hit over six innings and added an RBI hit of her own to lead College of San Mateo’s softball team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Mission College Tuesday in the home season finale for the Coast Conference leaders.

Alyssa Jepsen slugged one of three College of San Mateo home runs and earned her 13th pitching win of the season with a complete game as the Bulldogs maintained their hold on first place in Coast North softball with a 14-5 victory at City College of San Francisco.

All six College of San Mateo spring sports teams will be involved in championship competition the last two weeks of April.

Foothill College got all eight of its runs in the top of the second inning Tuesday but Coast North Conference softball leader College of San Mateo rebounded to score a 14-8 victory over the visiting Owls. CSM finally got revenge for last season’s state baseball championship game loss to Ohlone College, shutting out the visiting Renegades, 2-0

On Saturday, May 7, from 12 – 3 pm, the Mary Meta Lazarus Child Development Center at College of San Mateo will present a Spring Benefit Concert featuring the Reggae sounds of the Bay Area band, “Native Elements,” and the World Beat sounds of “Zanzibar” on the CSM Plaza next to the Health and Wellness Building. The concert is a celebration of children and families and all proceeds will go directly to benefit the Child Development Center.

The CSM baseball team will host defending state champion Ohlone today (Tuesday) at 2:30 p.m. in a rematch of last season’s state title game. CSM’s Coast North leading softball team entertains peninsula rival Foothill in the next to last home game of the regular season today at 3 p.m.
