Nick Pallas of College of San Mateo had the top community college decathlon score at the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State University, moving into third place on the state list with 5,819 points.

Morgan Jones pitched a perfect game while Kristen Kowaki had seven hits and scored six runs as College of San Mateo’s softball team swept visiting Yuba College, 9-0, 22-1, on Saturday.

It was the fifth straight win for CSM (17-4, 5-0 Golden Gate). De Anza (11-9, 3-1) had scored two runs in the first inning before the Bulldogs took control.

After outscoring opponents 57-0 in March, College of San Mateo’s softball streak came to an end – briefly – on Tuesday. Visiting West Valley College scored first, in the second inning, before the Bulldogs “rallied” with 11 runs in the third frame to take a 11-1 mercy rule (5-inning) victory.

Lauren Quirke had a perfect day of 3’s as College of San Mateo’s Northern California pacesetting softball team completed another shutout week with a 10-0 mercy rule (5-inning) Coast Conference North victory over visiting Chabot College.

47-0 is the number College of San Mateo’s softball team has put up over the past six days.
