February, 2019 Press Releases

Ignited by Aubrie Businger’s leadoff home run, College of San Mateo’s Northern California pacesetting women’s softball team powered to four weekend wins at home to extend its current winning streak to five games.

Yan-Jun (Sophie) Liao added the state lead in the 200 meters and improved her pacesetting 100 meter time, winning both events for College of San Mateo at Saturday’s De Anza Open Track & Field Meet.

Kaitlyn Grech hit a 3-run homer to left field to score leadoff batter Kaylyn Sterling along with Aubrie Businger as CSM handled host Solano College, 8-0, in a non-league 6-inning softball game Tuesday. Home runs by Christian Ontai, Anthony Flores, and Justin Torres propelled CSM over visiting College of Marin, 6-0, in a non-league baseball game Tuesday afternoon.

Liao debuts for CSM with state-leading 12.36 in Women’s 100 Meters, CSM’s comeback in home finale falls short in final 15 seconds against SJCC and CSM Baseball shackles visiting Feather River, 11-6

A pair of almost year-long College of San Mateo softball streaks finally ended Monday afternoon. Sierra College (8-1) avenged its last two losses – both to the Bulldogs — with a 5-3 comeback victory on a sunny but cold afternoon at College Heights.

Alec Ackerman singled home pinch runner Oscar Murray in the eighth inning for the game’s first score as host College of San Mateo shutout previously undefeated Merced College, 2-0, in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon.

JJ Ota went 4-for-4, including a pair of doubles and four RBIs, as College of San Mateo beat visiting Solano College, 10-5, Saturday and sweep a 3-game baseball series with the Falcons. Designated hitter Christian Stapleton smacked a 2-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead at the time.

Jamie Madigan started the day with a first inning home run and ended it scoring the mercy rule walkoff run on a single by Rachel Moran as College of San Mateo swept Sierra College, 5-0, and College of the Siskiyous, 8-0, Thursday afternoon in home season softball openers.

After upsetting second place Chabot on Wednesday and rolling past Ohlone, 79-35 on Saturday, College of San Mateo’s women’s basketball team battles for that runner-up spot with visiting rival Skyline College Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 5 p.m. at the College Heights gym.

The College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble will be presenting a benefit concert for the victims of the Northern California Camp Fire on Sunday, February 10 at 2:00 in the College of San Mateo Theater. Dave Eshelman’s Jazz Garden Big Band will be performing a set of Dave’s original compositions. Opening the concert will be the award-winning College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mike Galisatus.
