Courtney Townsend had 18 points and 12 rebounds while Coral Yu added 14 points as College of San Mateo ran past visiting Las Positas College, 70-48, in a Coast North Conference women’s basketball game Friday evening at College Heights Gymnasium.

The least likely team to appear in the finals of the 53rd Annual Gladiator Basketball Tournament at Chabot College trailed the state No. 24 ranked host team by just a single point with 26 seconds left in the title game Saturday night. College of San Mateo’s reinstituted men’s basketball program established several firsts just to reach the tourney finals. They won their first game, 94-89, over College of Alameda in the tourney opener. The Bulldogs took care of Porterville College, 91-88, in overtime in the semifinals – the first back-to-back wins for the program since the disbanded former program accomplished that in December of 1978.

After upsetting second place Chabot on Wednesday and rolling past Ohlone, 79-35 on Saturday, College of San Mateo’s women’s basketball team battles for that runner-up spot with visiting rival Skyline College Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 5 p.m. at the College Heights gym.

Kyana Wiley led a trio of College of San Mateo players in double figures with 15 points as the Lady Bulldogs ran past visiting Las Positas College, 72-50, in a Coast North Conference women’s basketball game on Saturday (Jan. 19).

College of San Mateo fought valiantly with state No. 8 ranked City College of San Francisco before the visiting Ram women took over in the fourth quarter to score a 69-55 victory Wednesday evening.

Brittney Lewis had 17 points and four steals as College of San Mateo won its lone home non-conference game (outside of a tournament), 73-47, over Hartnell College Friday evening.

Finally playing at home made a big difference for the College of San Mateo women’s basketball team. The Bulldogs won the first two games of the annual Tom Martinez Invitational before falling in the championship game to Northern California’s winningest team, College of the Sequoias. CSM (3-5) has one more home game this year, hosting Hartnell (2-7) on Friday at 7 p.m.

The College of San Mateo women’s basketball team will finally play its first home game of the season Friday (Dec. 14) at the annual Tom Martinez Invitational, which features a statewide field. The Bulldogs (1-4) meet Folsom Lake (2-4) in the opening day nightcap at 7 p.m. at the College Heights Gym.

Nandi Eskridge hit on 6-of-7 field goals to lead four College of San Mateo players in double figures with 17 points in an easy 82-67 season opening women’s basketball win at Modesto JC Saturday. CSM raced out to a 33-15 first quarter lead and extended it to 49-24 at the half.
