Brittany Travis and Jade Tu each had nine kills and Janine Francisco recorded six service aces as College of San Mateo new women’s volleyball team remained undefeated at home Wednesday night, sweeping Mission College 3-0 in a Coast Conference crossover match.

“Getting a nice lead early was important. There’s a few players that need game experience and the starters did a nice job of taking care of business and getting them involved right away. We are still learning and putting the pieces together, everyone needs to play and keep improving as we make our push to November.” said Coach Randy Wright.

Although Butte (2-2) scored first on a 56-yard run midway through the first quarter, CSM (2-2) came back with two touchdowns for a 14-7 halftime lead in a game that never seemed to end.

Rahsaan Fontenette rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns as College of San Mateo rolled past visiting Sierra College, 69-20, in a non-conference football game Saturday afternoon. The freshman running back out of Oak Grove (San Jose) scored twice on nine yard runs and also on a 16-yard run.

College of San Mateo’s new women’s volleyball team remained undefeated — scoring upsets over two of the state’s top eight teams from 2015 — at the loaded 16-team San Joaquin Delta College tournament Friday.

With Jade Tu making ten kills, College of San Mateo’s new women’s volleyball team continued its early season unbeaten string Wednesday, defeating district rival Skyline College 25-22, 25-12, 25-17 in the opening match of the College of San Mateo Classic.
