Nathaniel Shani won the men’s long jump and state leader Caroline Trevithick took the women’s high jump for College of San Mateo on the first day of the Coast Conference Track & Field Championships at Chabot College in Hayward.

College of San Mateo, which has made five straight appearances at the California Community College Athletic Association State Final Four Championships, maintained its lock on top of the final California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association State and Northern California Regional polls of the 2018 regular season.

For the third straight year and the fifth time in the last six, the College of San Mateo tops the California Community College Athletic Association regional championship softball seeding for Northern California.

After a crucial College of San Mateo win on Tuesday, the Coast Golden Gate Conference baseball champion will be determined in the final game when co-leaders CSM and Mission College clash in Santa Clara on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

College of San Mateo is the Coast North Conference softball champion for the sixth time this decade after beating Ohlone College, 9-6, in Tuesday’s regular season finale.

Emily McAdams pitched a pair of 7-inning complete games as state top-ranked College of San Mateo’s softball team swept a pair of non-league games against highly rated opponents.

Serra High grads Chris Papapietro and Nick Knecht smashed home run as College of San Mateo defeated host Chabot College, 6-4, Saturday to move into a tie for first place in the Coast Golden Gate Conference baseball race with five games remaining. Knecht also had one of four doubles by the Bulldogs.

Gabriella Zucchiatti and Lexi Riccardi each smashed 2-run homers as state top ranked College of San Mateo defeated visiting Foothill College, 10-0, in a 5-inning no-hit Coast North softball game Tuesday afternoon. Emily McAdams (10-2) pitched the first four innings, striking out two and walking one. Lauren Quirke pitched a quick fifth inning, with three putouts, to end the mercy-rule contest.

Chris Papaietro smashed a walkoff single in the ninth inning to cap a big day as College of San Mateo defeated visiting West Valley College, 2-1, Saturday in a crucial Coast Golden Gate Conference baseball game.
