Only College of San Mateo (10-1) came close to defeating 12-0 Butte this season. The state champion Roadrunners, playing before a partisan home crowd, had stopped CSM quarterback Casey Wichman from the two-yard line as time expired to escape with a 28-20 victory in a battle of unbeaten community college football teams on Nov. 2.
