Facing elimination – with one strike remaining – Sequoia grad Ashley Rincon smashed a three-run home run to give College of San Mateo an 8-7 walkoff victory over host Shasta College in the first round California Community College softball playoffs on Mother’s Day. San Mateo then romped, 11-2, in the five-inning nightcap – scoring six runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth — to win the series, 2-1.
