Sammy Fanua tied a College of San Mateo game record by scoring four touchdowns as the No. 2 state-ranked Bulldogs rolled past host De Anza College, 61-14, Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Bay 6 league play.

College of San Mateo rebounded quickly from its only deficit of the game with back-to-back touchdowns — buoyed by a successful onside kick recovery — to start Bay 6 football play with a 24-21 victory over previously undefeated state No. 3-ranked Santa Rosa JC Saturday afternoon.

Realizing its first No. 1 state ranking has come to an end (for the time being), College of San Mateo can now concentrate on its official quest for a state championship when play opens in the Northern California Football Conference’s new Bay 6 League on Oct. 18. The Bulldogs (4-1) will host unbeaten Santa Rosa JC (5-0) in the 1 p.m. contest.
