Cerritos College upset defending state women’s champion Laney College by ten points and Riverside City College ran away with the men’s title in the California Community College Athletic Association Track & Field Championships at College of San Mateo over the weekend. San Mateo’s Evan McDaniel claimed the first men’s title with winning distance of 56-3 3/4. Khallifah Rosser of Chaffey won the 400 meter hurdles in 52.08, getting past NorCal champ Roman Skovronski (52.17) of San Mateo over the final two hurdles. The remainder of the field finshed more than a second and a half back.

College of San Mateo plays host to the 63rd California Community College Athletic Association Track and Field State Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, at College Heights Stadium. Many nationally ranked athletes will compete in the CCCAA largest championship event.

This inaugural event, titled “Stepping Up: A Transfer Tribute,” will take place just one day prior to the college’s commencement ceremony. Conceived and organized by CSM’s faculty leadership group, the Academic Senate, “Stepping Up” creates a ritual around the transition that students make when they transfer.

Hurdler Evan Skovronski and thrower Evan McDaniel blew away the competition to win Northern California track and field titles at American River College in Sacramento over the weekend.

Both teams set to hold a press conference on Tuesday, May 14 at Noon.

Talisa Fiame homered in her third straight post season game to lead top-ranked College of San Mateo to a 5-1 victory in the opener of a California Community College Athletic Association Super Regional softball tournament Friday.

College of San Mateo’s top track and field athletes passed through the Northern California Trials successfully over the weekend at American River College and will return for the finals there on Saturday.

Top-ranked College of San Mateo swept its California Community College Athletic Association women’s softball regional series with visiting Feather River College on Saturday and Sunday and will host a four-team super regional series Friday through Sunday at College Heights.

On Saturday, June 1, 2013, Jazz On The Hill, presented by KCSM 91.1, the Bay Area’s jazz station, returns as College of San Mateo’s signature event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the College Heights campus.
