College of San Mateo will host the Family Science & Astronomy Festival + Makerspace on October 8 from 2-11 pm. As part of National Astronomy Day, the festival welcomes the community to learn more about astronomy, science and the wonders of the universe.

On Monday, May 9, 2016, the transit of Mercury begins at 6:06 am and ends at 11:42 am, local time. Courtesy of CSM’s Astronomy Department and the San Mateo County Astronomical Society (SMCAS), solar telescopes will be set up at two on-campus locations for public viewing of the transit from 7-11:45 am.

College of San Mateo faculty member Darryl Stanford and CSM astronomy laboratory technician Dean Drumheller, and San Mateo High School science teacher Sally Seebode and their students are conducting sophisticated astronomy research on a mysterious binary star system as participants in the NASA/Infrared Processing and Analysis Center Teacher Archive Research Program.
