Ignited by Aubrie Businger’s leadoff home run, College of San Mateo’s Northern California pacesetting women’s softball team powered to four weekend wins at home to extend its current winning streak to five games.

Kaitlyn Grech hit a 3-run homer to left field to score leadoff batter Kaylyn Sterling along with Aubrie Businger as CSM handled host Solano College, 8-0, in a non-league 6-inning softball game Tuesday. Home runs by Christian Ontai, Anthony Flores, and Justin Torres propelled CSM over visiting College of Marin, 6-0, in a non-league baseball game Tuesday afternoon.

A pair of almost year-long College of San Mateo softball streaks finally ended Monday afternoon. Sierra College (8-1) avenged its last two losses – both to the Bulldogs — with a 5-3 comeback victory on a sunny but cold afternoon at College Heights.

Jamie Madigan started the day with a first inning home run and ended it scoring the mercy rule walkoff run on a single by Rachel Moran as College of San Mateo swept Sierra College, 5-0, and College of the Siskiyous, 8-0, Thursday afternoon in home season softball openers.

The CSM softball team, ranked No. 1 in the state for much of last season, faces two recent state champions in Saturday’s (Jan. 26) opening games at Bakersfield College, site of the 2019 state finals. CSM opens the 2019 baseball season on Saturday (Jan. 26) at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill at 1 p.m.

SoCal No. 3 and defending State Champions, Cypress College kept their repeat dreams alive on Saturday afternoon in the 2018 CCCAA State Softball Championships. The Chargers eliminated NorCal No. 1 College of San Mateo 7-2 and advanced to the elimination semi-final later in the day.

College of San Mateo (NorCal No. 1) stayed alive in the 2018 CCCAA State Softball Championships for the second straight game on Friday evening. The Bulldogs took down NorCal No. 2 Sierra College 9-4, sending the Wolverines home for the weekend.

NorCal No. 1 College of San Mateo escaped their Coast Conference North Division rival Ohlone College (NorCal No. 3) in their first elimination game of the 2018 CCCAA State Softball Championships, 5-3. The Bulldogs used a four-run second inning to overcome an early deficit and then held on late as Ohlone had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh.
