San Mateo, CA; March 7, 2008—College of San Mateo will host C-SPAN’s election bus on March 11 from 9 to 11 am in front of the campus library. The college is hoping that students, staff and the community will join the thousands of people who have already toured C-SPAN’s Campaign 2008 Bus as part of the “Road to the White House.”
“A tour of the bus offers a great opportunity to get an inside look on the media’s coverage of one of the most historic elections in U.S. history,” said Aaron Schaefer, CSM’s coordinator of student activities and the college’s point person for this event. “What methods are the media using and what are they reporting? That’s the kind of information you will get. Plus, representatives from the various campaigns may be on board to field questions.”
The bus is a 45-foot production studio aimed at promoting and enhancing C-SPAN’s vast political coverage, according to the private, non-profit company created by the cable television industry as a public service in 1979.
“With early interest in presidential politics growing, we’re excited to get on the road now with the brand new Campaign 2008 Bus,” said Scott Peterson, C-SPAN (Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network) marketing representative. “As the political network of record, we’re pleased to offer a variety of resources for educators, students, first-time voters and the general public as part of our extensive coverage of the 2008 presidential elections.
C-SPAN says that since its January 2007 launch, the bus has been to 29 state capitals, 71 universities and 95 schools where 278 elected officials, 2,750 teachers, more than 21,650 students, and 4 presidential candidates have been on board.
Comcast, a large provider of cable services, is partnering with C-SPAN to offer the tours.
